President's Corner

MAY 2008

NTRWA President, Jen FitzGerald

Dear Chapter Mates,

I hope this month’s addition finds you well and writing. I have gotten into a writing mode and barely wanted to breakaway from writing my new story or my WIP to write this article.

The new Bylaws were approved by the membership and then submitted for review to RWA National. I received an email from National yesterday (April 24, 2008) that our Bylaws have been reviewed and approved. Thanks to everyone who sent in their ballots to get that done in a timely fashion.

Our next order of business as a chapter is going to be to elect someone to serve as President Elect for the remainder of 2008. An addendum regarding this issue was in the Bylaws at the time of their approval stating an election would be held in May 2008 using the Polls feature of our Yahoo Group. So be looking for that announcement, and please take time to vote. This is a very important right and responsibility of your membership.

Roundtable Critiques are coming once again this June. So far, we have six wonderful authors providing critiques: Candy Havens, Rosemary Clement-Moore, Rebecca Russell, Gail Dayton, Victoria Chancellor, and Cathy Spangler. If you are one of our published authors and want to participate, even if you can only provide one critique, please contact Gina Nelson or Candy Havens and let them know. If you want to receive a critique, you’ll be able to submit ten (10) pages to Gina via email and she’ll hook you up with the most compatible author. We’ll let you know when, so get those pages ready.

Also during June we’re going to be *selling* books donated to Ways & Means. Basically, we’ve decided not to put books in door prize gifts any more. We all have such different reading tastes it no longer seems like a good idea. So to relieve Marsha West, our Ways & Means chair, of her huge inventory of books, we’re going to sell them, all proceeds going back into the chapter. Prices will range from maybe a quarter or fifty cents to no more than $2 for the few hard cover books we have.

And speaking of Marsha, she’s been doing a great job with our door prizes. Thanks, Marsha!

Oh, one other thing about June, most of the Love, Texas Style anthology authors will be signing the anthology at the North Richland Hills Barnes & Noble’s new store beginning at 2PM following the June meeting. We hope you’ll join them in celebrating. In addition to all that fun and excitement, this event will be a fundraiser for our chapter. A percentage of designated sales will be given back to our group. How cool is that? Thanks to Mary Duncanson (w/a Mary Malcolm) for coordinating this event with Georgette Radford.

Anyone going to National and willing to carry proxy ballots for the rest of us, please let a board member know. (Thanks.)

Well, I guess that’s it for now. See you in May!

Sincerely,

Jen FitzGerald
