President's Corner

JUNE 2005

NTRWA President, Terri Griffis

For many of us, June starts in a mad rush. The kids have gotten out of school and plans have to be made for soccer camp, dance recital, sleep-over camp, swimming lessons, Six Flags, and of course vacation trips.

For many writers, June is usually when we start thinking about the National Conference and everything that needs to get done before we take off for almost a week. What should we say at our editor/agent appointments? Is it possible to loose those extra ten pounds that had been gained over Christmas? Do we need a new dress for the awards ceremony or should we wait till we’ve lost those ten pounds? And so on …

Of course these are all valid concerns. Whether we are planning to go to conference or not, the concern we most need to be aware of, is our writing. Are we still meeting our writing goals? At this point, do we even have writing goals? If not, what can we do to get back on track?

Throughout this article I’ve used the collective "we." The reason I’ve done that is to remind everyone that we’ve got some wonderful and supportive friends at NTRWA. And whether we need some help setting goals, encouragement with our writing, or with weight loss, I bet you’ll find it at NT. I know I have.
