President's Corner

OCTOBER 2007

NTRWA President, Jen FitzGerald

Dear Chapter Mates,

I’m really looking forward the Writers Roundup this year. I hope you are, too. I can hardly wait to spend a whole day with other writers who will be able to help me, and conversely I can possibly offer them a different perspective. As ‘they’ say, writing is a predominantly solitary endeavor.  This year’s Roundup is a great opportunity to get to know our chapter mates. I’ll be looking for you.

It’s also time to look ahead to next year. Several of our board members are stepping down. That means we are looking for new faces and new minds with new ideas to take their places.  Positions available are: Secretary and Newsletter Editor. Secretary is an absolutely necessary position, but is a really easy way to get involved – especially if you make every meeting anyway. All you gotta do is show up and take notes. Newsletter Editor is a little more labor intensive, and if no-one takes it on, we may not have a newsletter. Contact Anjalie Gilby, our Nominations/Election Committee Chair if you’re interested in either position.

I’d like to thank Nancy Connally for volunteering to take over the Spotlight for us starting in January. And many thanks to Wendy Watson for stepping in as Book In A Year Coordinator starting in January also. Ladies, your service is much appreciated!

In December, not only will we be holding our elections, but we’ll also be honoring the accomplishments of our chapter mates. We’ll be voting on the Yellow Rose Award, and then we’ll be handing out the following awards as well: the Rising Star Award, the Shining Star Award, the Golden Spur Award, and the Silver Spur Award – this is where all those pages written and edited that you recorded on the clipboards each month comes into play. We’ll rejoice with all those that have earned the bracelet and charms in the BIAY program. And we’ll celebrate Christmas a little early with our annual gift exchange.

Our 25th anniversary celebrations will continue into next year culminating in March with a special activity or program. We are also looking ahead to general programming for next year. If there’s something or someone you’re especially interested in, please let a board member know. We still have many months to fill.

Hope to see you at the next meeting.

Sincerely,

Jen
