NTRWA October 2003 Spotlight On...

ANGI PLATT

by Juliet Burns

A 'cowboy secret agent' must save the 'woman in jeopardy' mother of his 'secret baby'. This is the premise of RUNNING FROM LOVE, the manuscript Angi Platt—AKA The Hook Slut—hopes will interest the editors at Harlequin Intrigue. It’s currently sitting on their desk, and she expects to hear from them any day. If you want to know what the editor says, you’ll have to watch for news on our web site, loop, or newsletter.

Talk about a hook!

Angi cut her teeth on romance. In her preteen years, her grandmother, aunt and mother would pass down old Mills & Boon—what later became Harlequin—romances to her with a one or two word review written inside the cover. She moved on to Rosemary Rogers, and Kathleen Woodiwiss as most of us did, but the old Harlequins have a special place in her heart because of the hand-written reviews.

She remembers writing her first romance in seventh grade, a western. Her friends didn’t approve, but that didn’t stop Angi. Life did, however get in the way of her writing sometimes.

Her real life romance with her husband, Tim, began like an unbelievable version of SLEEPLESS IN SEATLE. After more than a dozen near misses over a period of six years—like being in the same hospital on the same day, attending the same church, and having several mutual friends, they finally met and eventually married.

With a full-time job, a husband, and three children, Angi had more than enough to keep her busy. But six years ago, her father passed away, and his death deeply affected Angi. With her husband’s support and encouragement, she made the decision to quit work and do what she’d always longed to do . . . write.

In 1999, Angi began pursuing her dream to become published. She joined RWA®, and DARA—serving as newsletter editor two years, and on the Dreamin' in Dallas Conference committee for three years. On a national level, she was appointed as the Regional 5 Director in July of 2002, working with the RWA® Board through two conferences, and as the Leadership Development Committee Chairperson.

This March, she joined North Texas and is currently helping with the Great Expectations contest. All this and she still managed to complete four manuscripts!

With her dedication and history of volunteerism, we are certainly glad Angi has joined NT.
