Give us some background on yourself.
I grew up in New York – Long Island - and moved to Texas after college (back in the 80’s). I live in Bedford, Texas with my son, a junior in high school. My daughter is all grown up. I am currently pursuing my Master’s Degree at Texas Woman’s University, Master of Library Science and Information Studies.
Please tell us what you write and a little bit about your writing journey.
I write contemporary romance involving a small town with a Main Street atmosphere. I am unpublished with two completed manuscripts. One I had shopped around without success.
Before email and text messaging, I wrote letters to family and friends. Writing is how I get my natural high. Originally, I had thought I would want to write magazine articles but quickly decided that with my overactive imagination, I would do better making things up.
I write in a journal or notebook before actually “starting” a manuscript. It’s not as intimidating as going to the “big screen”.
What do you write?
In my contemporary romances, either the main characters have known each other in the past (high school) and haven’t seen each other in many years, or are meeting for the first time. Both have some connection to the town. My heroines are usually in some sort of transition, career-wise or in-between relationships. There is always a best friend for support.
Plotter or Pantser?
Definitely a Pantser. Plotting and outlines make me anxious.
Do you use critique partners?
I do not have a critique partner(s) but would like to have someone to throw ideas around with. Sometimes I think I should be doing it all on my own, but where is the fun in that?
Do you have a writing schedule? How do you organize your time?
My writing schedule consists of trying to carve out an hour here and there in between being a mom, working full-time, and going to school. I do try to squeeze in writing time as much as possible. It is good therapy for me.
Tell us something about yourself that will surprise us!
This is a tough one. Usually when I get asked this question, I can say I write romance novels. Obviously, that won’t work here. I can share my guilty pleasure though – InStyle Magazine – even though the clothing is outlandishly expensive, I do love looking at the pictures and often times use them for generating character ideas.
Favorite Authors? Is anyone an auto-buy for you?
Claire Cook, Jill Shalvis, Kristan Higgins, Diane Kelly…I like to get my hands on their newest releases as they come out.
What are you working on now?
My latest work involves a single woman who has been let go from a small publishing house. During this transition she is helping out her aunt who owns the bookstore in town (on Main Street, of course). A well-known mystery writer who used to spend summers there, returns for a much- needed retreat in hopes of getting his writing groove back on track. Details pertaining to conflict between the two are still being ironed out. Although it is in the very early stages, I do have a title – “It’s Not Me, It’s You.”
What do you enjoy doing when you aren’t writing? How do you relax?
I enjoy reading, and spending time with my kids. When I do make myself relax, I’m either watching a movie or reading a good romance novel.
Anything else you’d like to share?
Just wanted to say thank you for letting me share and will work on being a more productive writer…so that I actually have something exciting to talk about!
Thanks so much for letting us get to know you better!
