The North Texas Two Step ~ A Writers Conference
Characters Revealed - Heroes, Heroines and Villains
About the Program
Create characters that reach out and grab your reader - characters who have built in connections to audiences. In this all day workshop, we'll introduce you to the eight male and female literary archetypes, found in fiction since humans first began telling stories. Then we will turn those heroes and heroines to the dark side, showing how heroic attributes, taken to extremes, results in delicious villainy. Finally , we will discuss how to build full-fleshed, dynamic characters using these archetypes.
Tami Cowden wanted to be a writer since she was a teenager. After 20 some years of thinking how great life would be when she was a writer, it finally occurred to her that to reach that goal, she’d actually have to put words down on paper. So she starting writing, and received the Individual Achievement in Fiction Award from America Mensa, Ltd. for her first short story.
Tami is also one of those obnoxious people who sold on her first try, earning $500 for a 1000 word story. But don’t hate her – the editor who bought her story quit shortly thereafter, and Tami has never sold to that magazine again. But she has sold more than 20 other short stories since, and her stories have appeared in three award nominated anthologies, Love Triumphs, Love Mystifies and Love Sizzles. Her first novel, Cruising for Love, winner of RWA’s Golden Heart, originally sold to Avalon Books, and is now available from Montlake Romance. Most recently, she contributed to a romance anthology, Decades of Love, which was released in February of this year.
Tami is the coauthor of The Complete Writers Guide to Heroes and Heroines: Sixteen Master Archetypes, a guide to characterization for writers, and us the author of Fallen Heroes: Sixteen Villain Archetypes, and authored Fallen Heroes: Sixteen Master Villain Archetypes. Tami has presented writing programs on characterization, plotting and scene building at more than 100 writing conferences and retreats.
